Jacksonville Image Awards

This event was the first of it’s kind and took place in the historic Ritz Theatre. The Jacksonville Image Awards was a formal ceremony that recognized the outstanding achievements in the Jacksonville African American Community. The award show took place February 29, 2020 and aired two weeks later on CW17.

Jacksonville Image Award Show Night

These photos were taken on the night of the Jacksonville Image Award show. These photos showcase the night’s stage design, award winners, event sponsors and the Jacksonville community. All photographs taken by Dennis Ho.

Stage Design

The set design for the Jacksonville Image Awards at the Ritz Theatre began with a simple layout of the workable space and the elements we wanted to display both on air for the televised event and for the award show itself, that night. Once we developed the information we wanted to display for each category and the overall look of the stage for the event, we began to mock up options or LED screens and backdrop elements in Cinema 4D.

In the digital program layouts, we were able to test the sizes and positioning of the LED screens we were using as video feeds for pre-produced story packages, but also nominee info screens, award category information and video boards that worked as interactive background elements. We were also able to incorporate textures and stage elements the Ritz Theatre already had available and see how they worked with the video boards and other stage elements. Once approved, these mockup layouts allowed us to block shots for the event itself and for the camera shots needed for the televised special.

Event Printables

Award Show Program Booklets, Nominee Certificates, Winner Envelopes and Trophies

These elements were designed to match the branding of this new community event and a majority of the show elements were built by hand, in house. The winner envelopes were developed in-house. Using a die-cut machine, we were able to cut specialty paper to layer the interior elements and display the name of the winners for all 7 categories. The on-stage script cards were printed in house and displayed the show logo on the backside of all of the cards. The program booklets were developed in-house and printed using a local sponsor print vendor. The nominee certificates were also developed in house, making use of a special gold foil plate to add dimension to the nominee certificates. The certificates were printed with the same local sponsor print vendor. And the trophies were purchased from an online vendor and we were able to customize the winners with a local award company.

Animated Show Elements

On-air & On Stage Templates

These animated show elements were all developed from scratch for this inaugural event. There were digital elements built for the video boards at the award show and elements built for the on-air showing of the award show. Working from the established branding of the show logo and the full screen graphics, I incorporated the black, gold and purple color scheme, line work and the gold textures into the animated template pieces. The video boards were an extension of the full screen graphics and covered information for all of the award categories and the three nominees for each award category. The elements for the on-air show included: keyable logo open, transitions, bump outs with sponsor and station logos, info screens, supers, and end credits.
